Frequently Asked Questions
Will my company have to pay for the Job Coaches services?
No, EBI pays for all Job Coach wages and benefits (including worker’s
compensation insurance coverage) through the California Department
of Rehabilitation.
Is there a way a person with a disability receiving supported employment can try a job for several days to make sure they will be successful before hiring?
Yes, many employers choose to have candidates do a 1-3 day job site assessment. During the assessment the candidate tries the job with training and support provided by the Job Coach. The candidates wages and benefits are covered by EBI during the assessment.
Should I be concerned about the work place safety of employees receiving supported employment services?
Work place safety practices and procedures are repeatedly emphasized by Job Coaches throughout initial training and support phase of the job placement. This training increases safety awareness and reduces chances of work accidents and injuries.
Should I be concerned about expensive job site accommodations if I hired someone with a disability?
Employers are not required to lower quality or productivity standards as accommodations, nor are employers required to supply personal use items like glasses or hearing aids. 85% of people with disabilities need no workplace accommodations or need no-cost accommodations. Only 15% of employees with disabilities need accommodations that cost money and the majority of these accommodations cost less than $500. For some accommodations that cost money, EBI can access funds from Department of Rehabilitation to cover the cost.
I am interested in becoming an employer partner. How do I get started?
