Employment Services
EBI provides employment services to people with disabilities who are clients of Department of Rehabilitation, but most of the programs work is providing employment services to people with developmental disabilities.
Employment Services (ES) are designed to assist people with developmental disabilities to become successfully employed by businesses in the community. EBI assists the individual to identify the type of employment they want. Taking into consideration a variety of factors (i.e. how many hours the person wants to work, physical limitations, etc.), EBI then contacts employers to develop employment opportunities that match each consumer’s desire for employment as closely as possible.
Once a suitable job match is found, EBI provides an array of services to help the person served to successfully learn and maintain their job. These services include:
- Assistance to learn public transportation routes to and from work, or assistance to access para-transit services
- Job coaching support
- Lifetime support services
- Help to understand how wages effect benefits like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI).
The amount of support services provided on the job varies with the needs of each individual. Employment Services generally decrease over time as the person served gains independence. Additional job coaching services can be provided if changes on the job require that the person gets extra support to maintain employment.
