Supported Living
Supported Living Services (SLS) are support services to assist persons with developmental disabilities to live on their own. Typically people who need more than 40 hours of support per month, and up to 24 hours a day, are referred for SLS.
The concept of Supported Living (SLS) is that support services are designed around the needs and wants of each individual. Individuals with very significant needs for support can successfully live on their own because support services are not required to decrease over time, as in Independent Living Services.
SLS are also designed to enable individuals served to have maximum control over the services they receive. Consumers (with assistance from an SLS agency as needed) participate in interviews and have decision-making power over hiring and firing of their direct support staff.
